NEW RatShut Rodent‑Proof Garage Door Bottom Launching April 15 at IDA Expo

04/01/2026 By Burrtec USA

Burrtec USA is pleased to announce the release of RatShut for Garage Door Bottom, a new heavy‑duty bottom seal designed to help prevent rats, mice, and other pests from entering through garage door gaps—one of the most common and vulnerable entry points in residential environments.

The RatShut Garage Door Bottom Seal is engineered for strength, durability, and long‑term performance. It features a reinforced steel spring coil embedded inside the seal, providing added rigidity, chew resistance, and reliable shape retention over time. This internal reinforcement helps ensure consistent contact between the garage door and floor, even under demanding conditions.

Designed with a dual‑lip (two‑lip) bottom weatherstrip, the seal delivers a tighter and more effective closure on uneven garage floors. This two‑lip design enhances surface contact, improving pest exclusion while also blocking drafts, dust, leaves, water, and debris from entering the garage.

Constructed from high‑quality soft PVC weather‑proofing material, the RatShut Garage Door Bottom combines flexibility with durability. The PVC material resists cracking, tearing, and damage from extreme weather conditions while allowing for smooth and quiet garage door operation. Suitable for year‑round use, it also contributes to improved energy efficiency and a cleaner, more secure garage.

The RatShut Garage Door Bottom Seal is easy to install and is compatible with T‑shaped retainers, fitting 1‑3/8 inch and 2 inch door widths, making it suitable for most standard garage doors.

Ratshut Provides Both Immediate and Long-Lasting Protections from Mice and Rats

03/25/2026 By Ed DeMask

One of the many overlooked areas of a home or business when trying to prevent insects and rodents from entering is the doorway. The same can be said for a garage and its doorway.

But Burrtec has taken the focus away from traditional pest control strategies and added the prevention of keeping rodents from entering under or around doorways.

Most mice and rats can squeeze their bodies through a hole as small as a quarter! That means as a door becomes worn, a small opening can be the start of a massive infestation. At many commercial businesses, doors are frequently propped open with a brick or cement block to cool off a warehouse. Over time, this affects the alignment of the door and creates a welcoming path for rodents.

Burrtec, which has been a leader in manufacturing door sweep products for decades and is the brand giant in Japan, recently developed the strongest solution for doorways and garages – Ratshut. It is a stainless-steel spine-backed product and an essential tool for maintenance and facility managers, pest control professionals, and garage door installers.

All of Burrtec’s door sweeps including Ratshut can protect from rodent infestations, as well as stop dust, dirt, and pollen.

These products are available for consumers for residential use, as well. As the leading manufacturer of door sweep solutions, Burrtec is providing quality exclusion products to PMPs and building material suppliers. It is the North American division of Burrtec Co., Ltd., one of Japan’s largest pest control producers.

Dr. Bobby Corrigan Back at Pest Management University March 31st to April 2nd in Florida!

03/18/2026 By Ed DeMask

Pest Management University will be headlined by Dr. Bobby Corrigan’s Rodent Academy later this month!

bobby corrigan

Rodent Academy is a specialized training event that provides attendees with in-depth knowledge of commensal rodent biology, behavior, and best management practices. Rodent Academy started 20 years ago in New York City.

The course, in Apopka, Florida from March 31 to April 2, is limited to 35 students to provide a hands-on setting. To register for the course, visit:

In an interview for Burrtec’s blog, Corrigan years ago expressed how important protecting doors are in preventing rodents.

“Any penetration like a line that enters a home – a utility line, a plumbing line, a cable line, anything that goes through a wall, and you do not seal properly the rodents will follow that line where the penetration comes out.

“For gaps or holes, if it’s more than a 6 mm gap it allows a mouse in, if it’s more than a 12 mm gap, it allows a rat in. As you drive down the street you look at people’s garage doors and if you see light leaking from the garage door, that gap – a little gap makes it easy for them to enter.”

An industry leader at preventing rodents, Burrtec and its newest product – Ratshut – have gained momentum in the industry. Ratshut is a stainless-steel spine-backed product and an essential tool for maintenance and facility managers, pest control professionals, and garage door installers.

All of Burrtec’s door sweeps including Ratshut can protect from rodent infestations, as well as stop dust, dirt, and pollen.

Rodents Exposing 1.2 Million to New Health Risks

03/11/2026 By Ed DeMask

Pest Management Professionals are now realizing that the rodent activity in California has spread beyond coastal cities and is now putting 1.2 million people at risk for new health issues in inland cities.

According to the release from Dan’s Pest Management, population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show that more than 1.2 million people live across inland California counties where rodent-related complaints and monitoring alerts have risen in recent years.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, rats and mice are known carriers of pathogens, parasites, and allergens that can affect human health.

Prevention is the key to avoiding health issues with rodents. Most rats and mice enter a structure – a home or business – from the roof, gaps around plumbing penetrations, or underneath doorways and garage doors.

Burrtec has develop a top solution for doorways and garages called Ratshut.

Ratshut is a stainless-steel spine-backed product and an essential tool for maintenance and facility managers, pest control professionals, and garage door installers.
