Why Rodents Like Entering Through Garages

06/17/2026 By Ed DeMask

Rats and mice generally have been known for sneaking into homes and businesses by entering under doorways, through openings along plumbing and electrical penetrations, or through holes in the roof.

But one of their most popular entryways these days is through the garage. There are several reasons why.

Shelter from the elements, finding a food source, and locating water are the top three motivations why rats and mice go through garages, according to The Ladybug Pest and Wildlife Control based in Indiana.

Preventing them would be the best possible course of action and top of that list is Burrtec’s Ratshut provides tremendous protection that rodents cannot chew through.

Rodent Hantavirus Outbreaks Detected in Several Locations through the United States & Globally

06/03/2026 By Ed DeMask

While the need for better protection from all insects kicks into high gear as the summer months approach, rodents are spreading disease and filth creating a need for increased prevention.

The University of Nebraska reported that models detect that virus-carrying rodents can spread with the change of weather patterns in some countries. The report stated that this could expose populations to diseases not previously encountered.

In Vermont, where there is a discussion of curbing the use of rodenticides, according to WCAX-TV, a recent Hantavirus outbreak has residents worried about infestation possibilities.

North of San Diego, Hantavirus was discovered near the Orange County line near Mission Viejo, the first rodent to be tested positive for the virus this year in California.

Prevention is the best way to stop Hantavirus from spreading by rodents, and Burrtec’s Ratshut is the industry’s toughest product against rats and mice.

Ratshut is a stainless-steel spine-backed product and an essential tool for maintenance and facility managers, pest control professionals, and garage door installers. What Can and Can’t Rodents Chew Through?

05/26/2026 By Ed DeMask

Most of the common products that homes and businesses are made of can be chewed through by a common rodent.

Their incisors grow consistently and that’s why even when they chip, they are replaced naturally but they are forced to gnaw on items to keep them from growing too large.

Their teeth, very strong, can chew through wood, aluminum, copper, and even poorly cured concrete. This means chewing through the bottom of an unprotected door is simple stuff to a rat or mouse.

Stainless steel is the one thing that rats cannot chew through, and it’s the core spine inside Burrtec’s top product, Ratshut.

Ratshut is a stainless-steel spine-backed product and an essential tool for maintenance and facility managers, pest control professionals, and garage door installers.

Check for Signs that Rodents are Entering Under Doorways and Garage Doors

05/19/2026 By Ed DeMask

To know if you have any mice or rat problems, you need to notice the signs of one of the rodents entering your home or business.

The top destination for rodents to enter a home is under a door or through the garage by entering the side or bottom of a garage door. This is where you seek out signs of entry.

Looks for gaps in the weather stripping or bite marks – gnawing – on the door itself to see if there are rodent issues. Rodents also leave behind piles of their droppings, another sign to spot when checking for rats or mice.

To prevent them from entering, Burrtec’s Ratshut product can stop them from entering in the first place.

Ratshut is a stainless-steel spine-backed product and an essential tool for maintenance and facility managers, pest control professionals, and garage door installers.

All of Burrtec’s door sweeps including Ratshut can protect from rodent infestations, as well as stop dust, dirt, and pollen.
