During the winter, there are simple reasons why rats and mice find themselves seeking a presence in a home or building. Their top three needs all would likely be found by going indoors – food, shelter, water. But are the same reasons true in summer?
Since those sources or “big three” are readily available indoors and out during the summer months, a rodent presence indoors during summer indicates a lack of protection around entry points to the home.
Very typical are the openings around plumbing and other utility pipes that are commonly created as they jiggle over time. These openings only need to be the size of a quarter or sometimes, less. When homeowners have a satellite cable dish installed and removed, at times that will leave a small opening in the siding.
The bigger entry points that homeowners and building owners and occupants really need to focus on are garage doors and entry doors. While garage doors have a padding support on the bottom, there is no protection on the sides where wear and tear is just as present.
For entry doors, they most times have openings under them and require door sweeps to protect from rodents squeezing underneath and infesting the building or home. Many door sweeps are not as strong as others and that’s important because rats have strong incisors and can bite through aluminum, wood, and even poorly cured concrete!
Burrtec protects both garage doors and entry doors from rodents. Burrtec manufactures door sweeps that can prevent mice and rats from entering a home, office, or warehouse facility. Its new garage door product is being released later this year, to protect the sides of garage doors from rodent entry.
