Roof Rats are the Leading Increase in Infestations
The mischievous roof rat is leading an increase in rodent infestations, according to Food Safety News.

The trade media organization, sourcing the Rentokil State of the Rodent Report, stated that the Roof Rat has increased the number of rodents being found in urban centers across the country.
Key Findings in the Report:
- Urban – increase construction growth means that roof rats are corresponding directly with people.
- Cheaper Construction – because construction schedules are speedy compared to decades ago, it’s easier to find openings for rodents perhaps due to cheaper product choices.

“The Perfect Storm” Brings Rats to San Francisco
Sometimes to attract rodents it’s simply an increase in food sources or water availability or even better shelter options. Recently in San Francisco, it was all three in what the media called a “Perfect Storm” of rodent attractions.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a mix of urbanization, building practices, and mild winters have created a rodent problem – rats specifically – that have increased the work of pest management professionals.
The issue puts the spotlight on what has become the most important aspect of pest control when it comes to controlling mice and rats – exclusion. Prevention before is much more important than control after.
