Marksman Pest Control’s Ryan Roy Relies on Burrtec USA for Door Sweeps that Provide Top Performance

10/29/2025 By Ed DeMask

Exclusion is a simple tactic that when done correctly, can actually prevent rodent infestations before they start. That’s why Ryan Roy of Connecticut’s Marksman LLC relies heavily on Burrtec USA’s line of door sweeps to prevent mice and rats from entering under doorways.

Rodent problems have not lessened much during COVID-19 and in most areas, PMPs are still getting one of every six calls for a rodent issue. But while reacting to mice and rat problems is part of the job, preventing them is the other part. Ryan Roy uses Burrtec USA’s door sweep products for one reason – they work.

“Finding a proper solution for exclusion needs is important to every pest control professional,” said Roy. “What’s important is being able to install a door sweep easily, know that the product is dependable and strong, and have peace of mind that it will provide premium performance against rodents trying to eat through it.”

Because Burrtec’s door sweep products are made with stainless steel – not plastic or aluminum like other manufacturers – it can prevent rodents from biting through it to enter a home or business. That’s why PMPs around the country use it as a daily exclusion tool.

“It’s really important to use the right products so our customers can know that we’re doing everything in our power to protect them from pest control issues – especially when we’re trying to prevent them from happening in the first place,” said Roy. “That’s why I can feel good about using Burrtec door sweeps whenever I’m in the need of an exclusion solution.”

Burrtec has been providing door sweeps to the pest control industry and has grown to become an industry leader thanks to its product performance.

“We’re very proud of the company we’ve built but it’s entirely based on door sweep solutions that meet the toughest needs that are put before pest control professional throughout the U.S.,” says Burrtec USA international sales manager Ken Arai. “Having owners like Ryan Roy support us is the reason we’re in this business.”

Temperatures Starting to Drop – Rats & Mice Will Now Seek Shelter and Food Sources Indoors

10/15/2025 By Ed DeMask

October is the month when temperatures start to fall, typically for good, to a lower level where evenings are in the 40s/50s and some days start to feel chilly.

As a result, most mice and rats will start their annual trek to seek a comfortable shelter for the colder fall and eventually winter months. According to Action Termite & Pest Control, rodents move indoors for three reasons:

  • Temperature
  • Food sources
  • Shelter

In addition, water is a main source for rodents to seek indoor shelter. Many homes and commercial buildings have water available to disease-spreading mice and rats, and that attracts them.

Commercial buildings can prevent rats and mice by using Burrtec’s Ratshut, it’s a stainless-steel spine-backed product and an essential tool for maintenance and facility managers, pest control professionals, and garage door installers. All of Burrtec’s door sweeps including Ratshut can protect from rodent infestations, as well as stop dust, dirt, and pollen.

These products are available for consumers for residential use, as well. As the leading manufacturer of door sweep solutions, Burrtec is providing quality exclusion products to PMPs and building material suppliers. Rodents are “Pest of the Week!”

10/08/2025 By Ed DeMask

Rodents are the “Pest of the Seek” on Mosquito’s Squad’s popular social media, which profiles pests and gives tip on how to prevent them!

Rats and mice are commonly known for entering homes through openings under doorways, around plumbing penetrations, under siding shingles, and through roof gaps. So, prevention is the key and knowing whether or not you have rodents.

Here’s the social post about rodents:

Of all types of prevention for rodents, door protection is at the top of the list. Rodents sneak under doorways in spaces as small as a quarter or less. Any type of opening can be the start of a long-term infestation.

Stopping mice and rats from entering under doorways is where most pest professionals use Burrtec products. The company’s stainless steel-powered weatherstrip and door sweep products prevent rodents. These prevent mice and rats – as well as dust and dirt – from entering into a garage. Burrtec also has a product for typical residential and commercial doors.

Dr. Bobby Corrigan Focuses on Common Entry Points Part 2 of 3

10/01/2025 By Ed DeMask

For obvious reasons, we talked to Dr. Bobby Corrigan about the issues that doors present when not properly protected from rodent access. He had some great insight about rodents and doors in both commercial and residential settings.

“Doors of all of all types are famous for letting in rodents,” says Dr. Corrigan. “You have typical front doors of homes, or you have the main door of a restaurant or anything like that. Often times, we don’t seal them correctly at the bottom, we leave that seal or gap because we don’t appreciate it when you’re standing up and you’re like 5’8” looking down a small gap of 6 mm you almost don’t see it. So, it’s the unseen open door of a closed door. It’s an open door for rodents.

bobby corrigan

“Doors of course come in different shapes and sizes we’ll have double doors in commercial accounts and in office buildings and hotels and even if we correctly seal them, we don’t often seal between the doors, that thing called the astragal gap. We get an ‘F’ in terms of school grades on how well we keep our doors sealed. And because of that rodents come in sometimes just at will. I don’t have any data to prove it, but it may be the number one type of gap for them.”

Tips for PMPS?

Dr. Corrigan has a few tips he always shares with PMPs that focus on rodent control services.

“For the PMPs they have to if they’re a reputable company proceed down the path of Integrated Pest Management (IPM),” he says. “And the reason IPM is the kindergarten level of pest control is because it combines all the good things. First you inspect to see, can you build them out? So, you’re doing inspections so that you can see are all the doors correctly sealed, do they have something as a pest excluder device. Check the all the doors, check the holes, check the penetrations. I always advise them if they’re not sealed you should offer to seal them. Do it for them, it’s a great service. So that’s the first thing, keeping them out.

“And then, after that – and this is the hard lesson, you try to advise customers, please don’t attract them with dog food and food and garbage. So, the second (tip) is trying to get the customer to be a partner and not attracting rodents.”

Two more tips are truly important, as well, Dr. Corrigan added.

“Third is what non-chemical tools are they going to use to control. Are they going to use snap traps for example for house mice or use multiple catch traps. Glue traps? What’s their non-chemical approach.

“The last one, which should be last and not first, are you going to use some poisonous bait of some sort to kill them because that’s the least desirable and least effective for the long term. The most effective is keeping them out of the building in the first place. Like I said I’m a fanatic about that. Why charge them every month and put more poison out every month to kill them when you can try to keep them out from the very first week. That’s the way it should be.”
